At a conference a few weeks ago, someone told me about a science fiction / fantasy book where the characters all have an animal ‘other’, who is always near them and mirrors their personality. Does anyone know that this book is called? I’ve forgotten the title and would like to read it. Sorry for the lack of information.

A child’s demon changes shape regularly. It is a sign of adulthood when one’s demon begins to settle on a shape. A film adaptation, “His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass,” is scheduled to be released by New Line Cinema in Dec of this year.
