I’ve been trying to buy the books I loved as a child and I can’t figure out the title and/or author to this one book. I believe it was printed sometime during the 1970s, but not sure. Please help.
Brief summary: The world is overheating and a teen girl goes to find her brother who is in the space program. She manages to get on the spaceship that holds the people that will repopulate whatever planet they land on. She fights constantly with the commander and starts a mutiny, but then falls in love with him after he nurses her back to health while she’s locked in the ship’s jail cell. They end up landing back on Earth.
I read a book many years ago – say around 40 years ago – about commet dust that fell to earth and disabled all machinery by welding together anything that moved.
Any moving device, bearings, motors, etc. were welded together when they moved with the comet dust being present.
They finally developed a device that “swept” the atmosphere to cause the comet dust to fall out of the atmosphere where it was collected.
I don’t remember the author or the title.
Does anyone have any idea of the title or author of this book?
I have been looking for a science fiction book that I once saw when I was younger, but I don’t know the title or author. All I remember was the cover art, which had lots of blues and which showed a very large spaceship crashed on an icy planet, with lots of people around it. The book was rather long, I’d say about 400-600 pages, and seemed like it was published in the 60s or 70s, maybe in the 80s. (I was very young when I saw it, so my recollection of it might not be perfectly accurate.) I know this isn’t very descriptive, but if anybody knows of any book that might be this one, please answer. I would really love to find out what that book was that I saw so long ago.
