Well, it can be about just about anything. There are no set plots. Hope this helps.
The most difficult part of a science fiction book is suspending the disbeleif of the reader.
Science fiction books have lots of different plots: aliens attacking humans, humans attacking aliens, humans making friends with aliens, traveling in time to prevent something, humans inventing something that could destroy the world, etc.
