I need to read a science fiction book for my English class, however….I’m not exactly a fan of the genre. Do you know of any science fiction books that might be a good read for someone who doesn’t really like the genre??

Anything by HG Wells, Jules Verne, or Isaac Asimov would be best.
i don’t like science fiction either but i had to read “childhood’s end” in english class and it turned out to be really interesting =]
try it out.
How about a Sci Fi/Fantasy mix?
There Will be Dragons by John Ringo. It’s the perfect blend of science fiction and fantasy.
Well I liked the Veldt or City of Ember.
Anything by Orson Scott Card, but I would start with Ender’s Game. He is an amazing author, and I can almost guarantee that you’ll love his books, even if you don’t like sci-fi
For English class, best to find one that is a commentary on something rather than a space opera or laser gun romp.
Forever War by Joe Haldeman is great- it’s a time jumping space battle war that focuses on “you can never go home again”, why war sucks, and the dehumanizing effect the military can have on soldiers thru it’s beaurocracy.
Frankenstein is a classic- it’s more about negligence of parenting, playing with fire (technology and morals), and it’s cool cuz it’s about making a man from dead bodies.
I would say those are two of the best…there’s plenty more, you could find them on top ten lists and such, but this maight be a good start.
I’m not much into Sci-Fi books but I love the ones listed here.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld would be a good choice. It is about a civilization that makes all teens “pretty” on their 16th birthday. However this procedure makes the teens stupid so they are easier for the government to control. Tally fights the system.
