Dune is a great choice. I'd have to say that my favorite was 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Robert Heinlein. I totally fell in love with Michael Valentine!

Erm, Ender's Game? Is there any other answer? If you read Ender's game, at least five people will come up to you and tell you how amazing it is. Not even kidding. That's how amazing it is. Plus, it's a fabulous book, and I love it. And everyone should just emulate me in every way. Yup.
